2003 - WARA DX-Safari to Nevis Island - 2003
06 May to 23 May, 2003
Location: "Sugar Hill" on the Golden Rock Estate, Gingerland, Nevis, West Indies
Looking EAST from 1200' up on the side of the volcano... with a 230 Degree Field of View!
The second annual DX-Safari setup on the East Side of the Nevis volcano at 1200 feet above sea level
at the base of the tropical rain forest.
An estimated 60,000 green monkeys, 20,000 free-ranging goats & sheep and a whole bunch of wild burros
running all over the place!
The population is almost 10,000 however only "7" amateur radio operators...
so our group almost doubled the active ham population overnight!
The photo is looking West towards Mount Nevis(3232') past the pool and the 'shack'.
The field of view looking East is the open Atlantic Ocean with the islands of Antigua, Redonda,
and Montserrat on the horizons... did we say 'awesome'?
We surpassed our 2003 goal with 1073 Contacts with multi-op, multi-band multi-mode operations.
17m seemed to have the most activity for us this year even with the spotty band openings most of the time...
a real DX effort fer sure!
Matt/W5LL was Team Leader this year with Most Contacts & Most Modes using his laptop computer!
Mark and Clayton were our SSB ops while Atlee and Murf hung out on 40m CW with a little MFJ keyboard setup.
Fabulous NEW Color Photographic QSL cards are now available to All amateurs who submit valid QSLs.
Please thank "Betty" who is filling all of them out fer u guyz.
Please QSL via NT5W and we will QSL 100 percent fer sure.
